Meet Barbara

I am a licensed Realtor specializing in the mid to upper brackets of the Old Town and Alexandria environs. In 2001, I moved from South Africa to Alexandria with my two big dogs, who quickly helped me become rooted to the community in Old Town. It seemed I had just landed in this wonderful place - a human-scaled town accessible to the rest of the East Coast and Europe. I couldn't believe my luck.

I'm as action-oriented and energetic as I am well-organized - the type who knows how to get things done. I plan a strategy that pinpoints your needs and determines how we're going to solve them. I produce the figures and analysis to back up my intuition. I also have a lot of patience, and I treat my clients like friends from the get-go, giving you lots of feedback along the way.

In South Africa, I ran my own public relations firm that focused on design and industry. So I thrive on marketing a listing, photographing the property, and interfacing with designers. I love a home with a good aspect. I'm also able to envisage refurbishing and landscaping ideas to realize its full potential.

I dive straight in with buyers, taking them out to get a feel for what they like immediately. From there, I give my clients a sense of what's to come. I've learned you can never anticipate everything, but the more prepared you are, the better.

In today's market, buyers have access to all kinds of property searches on their own. Analysis is where the Realtor comes in - advising clients and knowing the right questions to ask. Realtors have a wealth of information on macro stats and market conditions; I bring that to my clients' awareness.

Old Town is a place for walking, for soaking up the history and admiring the architecture, from the mansard roofs of the French chateau-style homes to more recent renovations. It's where history meets a modern lifestyle. Being so close to the water and river life is a luxury. Though the dogs who accompanied me here are no more, Don Quixote, a Siberian husky, and Lucinda, a golden retriever, helped me meet so many neighbors and Old Town citizens. Our wonderful walks took us to Jones Point, Fort Hunt, Windmill Park, and down to the Potomac, where they used to swim in the river and chase ducks.

Prior to becoming a Realtor, I did fundraising for United Way which helped me connect with many of the charitable institutions in the area. In the community, I have volunteered to do reading at the local school, and also served on the Board of The Christian Community for many years. I am now assisting them to find new premises.

Before my arrival in Old Town, I lived in London and traveled abroad on the European Continent. Having moved and left my own home country several times, I'm very sympathetic to people who have to leave their house for any rhyme or reason.

I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve the satisfaction that comes with a successful relocation.
